E-books

Would you like to read books on your tablet, smartphone or computer? We offer thousands of titles, mostly in Swedish but some in other languages as well.

What is an e-book?

An e-book, short for electronic book, can be read on a computer screen, on a tablet or smarthpone. There are several advantages: you can borrow the book from home, you can set your own preferable text size, there are no overdue fees, no waiting in a reservation queue, and no need to carry around heavy books.

What do you need to borrow an e-book?

You are eligible to borrow 2 e-media / 7 days (i.e. 2 e-books or 2 e-audiobooks or 1 of each). The loans self-terminate after 28 days. If you haven’t finished your book in 28 days you can simply borrow it again by searching for it. It’s not possible to return borrowed books in advance.

To start borrowing e-books you need to make some preparations. The Borås Libraries offer two ways of reading e-books:

Alternative #1 – The Biblio App

This alternative is the easiest and is centered around the free app called Biblio. The app is versatile and can be used to both read e-books and listen to e-audio books. Please follow the steps below:

1. Acquire a library card and PIN-code.
To borrow e-books you will need a library card with an accompanying 4-digit PIN-code. Just bring a photo ID with you to one of the public libraries in Borås and apply for one.

2. Download the Biblio App on your device.
Download the app Biblio from either App Store (iOS 10.3, iPhone 5s or later required) or Google Play (Android 5.0 or later required).

3. Open Biblio.
When you open Biblio you need to log in using your library card information. Once entered you’re ready to go!

Alternative #2 – other e-book reading services

If you don’t want to use Biblio then there are other services. Please follow the steps below:

1. Acquire a library card and PIN-code.
To borrow e-books you will need a library card with an accompanying 4-digit PIN-code. Just bring a photo ID with you to one of the public libraries in Borås and apply for one.

2. Register an Adobe ID on this link.
An Adobe ID is needed to read copy protected materials.

3. Download the program/app you wish to use for reading e-books.
E-books are small data files in the .epub format and some popular services that can encode this format are PocketBook Reader (for tablets and smartphones) and Adobe Digital Editions (for computers).

4. Authorize the program/app of your choice with your Adobe ID.
When you open the program/app for the first time you’ll be greeted with a window that asks for your Adobe ID information. Once filled in, you’re ready to go! Search our catalog for titles and download them to your device.

We highly recommend you to consult the step-by-step guides on this page to get started. Please note that there are different guides depending on which device you’re using.
